On Tuesday, July 4, 2017, from 12:00 Noon until 5:00 PM, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston's American Decorative Arts Center, the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, will celebrate our country's National Holiday with a special Independence Day "Family Day" celebration.

There will be continuous live musical entertainment throughout the afternoon; guided tours of the mansion, the former home of Houston arts philanthropist, Miss Ima Hogg; crafts and other creative activities; readings of the Declaration of Independence, and the opportunity for guests to sign a replica of the historic document; and refreshments.

The first musical group to perform at the Bayou Bend Fourth of July Celebration will
be Revelry, Revels Houston's year-round community outreach ensemble. At 12:30 PM, the group's singers and instrumentalists will present a 45-minute program of songs, marches, patriotic hymns, spirituals and folk-tunes that were popular in the Thirteen Colonies during the time of the Boston Tea Party , the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Revolutionary War, and the founding of the new nation, the United States of America.

Some of the music that Revelry will perform is still enjoyed today and will be familiar
to the audience; other pieces are unique to their historic era in the latter half of the Eighteenth Century.

Admission to Bayou Bend's "Family Day" Fourth of July Celebration is free.
The house museum and gardens are located at the end of Westcott Drive,
off Memorial.
